Regular vehicle inspection in the Ukraine
Kiev/Hanover: TÜV NORD is supporting development within the Ukrainian vehicle sector. Autologistika, the largest supplier of transporters for new vehicles in the country, has now opened its first inspection station in Kiev. “In some parts of Eastern Europe, the quality of regular vehicle inspections is still considerably below EU standards”, says Ingo Albes, TÜV NORD Project Manager for Internationalisation. “This new station represents the next step along the path to enhanced road safety.” Besides helping with technical advice and equipment, TÜV NORD has up to now also trained 18 vehicle inspectors. Currently, around 6.5 million vehicles are travelling on the roads in the Ukraine, and a larger than average number of these are more than seven years old.
In 2009 Ukraine lifted the state monopoly of the traffic police in the field of vehicle testing and opened up the market to private providers. “The standard of regular vehicle inspection available at Autologistika is now comparable with that in Western Europe”, says Ingo Albes. “The role of electronics within vehicles is becoming increasingly important, and with the support of TÜV NORD, Autologistika has now taken the technical lead in this area and will continue to develop its position.“
TÜV NORD especially sent an experienced expert who grew up in the former Soviet Union to Kiev for the training of the Ukrainian inspectors.
Sergey Dobrohod, Departmental Manager in the Ukrainian Transport Ministry, hopes that thorough inspection will significantly reduce the number of road accidents in the country. As he says, regular and exact testing of the technical condition of a vehicle is just as important as observance of road traffic regulations when it comes to safety.
There are around 6.5 million vehicles on the roads in Ukraine, which has a population of 46 million. Passenger cars must be presented for inspection every two years. TÜV NORD’s partner in the Ukraine wants to build and operate a close network of test stations throughout the country in future in cooperation with its subsidiary „Laboratory of Technical Inspection Autologistika“.
