Old deposits

Former landfills are inoperative waste management sites and other properties where waste was once treated, stored, or matured. They, together with the properties of the inoperative sites, are referred to as contaminated sites.

If required by the authorities in charge, contaminated sites as well as the consequential water pollution must be cleaned up and precautions against detrimental soil impacts must be taken. However, waste disposal sites that are suspected to harbour harmful soil and ground water are not always easy to identify.

Which services do we offer?

• We devise a historical investigation to clarify the former use and examine the remediation possibilities. We conduct detailed soil investigations (soil sampling and analysis, soil air and water, declaration of waste).
• We provide you with support in the remediation activities (tender document, occupational safety concept, occupational safety measures, onsite support, disposal management, etc.) and conduct hydro-geological inspections (pumping tests).
• We conduct environment due diligence on your behalf (documenting and assessing all environmental problems and financial risks of concern at an abandoned industrial site).
• We also offer you inspections of landfill gas pathways (sampling and landfill gas analysis, FID inspections, gas suction tests).
• In addition to assessing the foundation soil for planned construction, we determine the gas risk potential and plan measures to reduce the risk.

Which standards and statutory regulations form the basis of our work?

The use-related assessment of contaminated sites is regulated in the German Federal Soil Protection Act (dated 17 March 1998 I S. 502), last changed by.. Article 3 of the law dated 9 December 2004 (BGBl. I S. 3214)) in connection with the "ordinance for implementing the Federal Soil Protection Act" (Federal Soil Protection Act and Contaimination Ordinance – BBodSchV) geregelt.
